NOTIFICATION: As part of LNG Canada’s ongoing geotechnical investigation near Rio Tinto’s Terminal A, which began in late April, we will soon begin impact driving a number of test piles. We will also use geotechnical instruments to monitor the soil resistance, pile capacity and the impact of pile installation on the stability of dredged slopes.

We anticipate residents in Kitamaat Village and Kitimat, depending on where they live, may hear noise from the work. Piling will occur only during the day and sporadically throughout May and June. Some preparatory work may occur in the evening but will exclude noise generating activity.

LNG Canada will be monitoring noise levels and conduct environmental monitoring to ensure we understand any impacts that might result from the work. Once the test piling and monitoring work is complete, the piling barge and supporting vessels will leave the area.

We do not foresee any impact to local water traffic in the project area. Local mariners are advised to refer to our Notice to Shipping and maintain a safe distance from the work site. Safety is a core value of LNG Canada and Rio Tinto and we are committed to minimizing and managing impacts from any construction activity.

This work is related to the construction of Rio Tinto’s Terminal A Extension, which will be completed by LNG Canada. However, it is subject to a final investment decision by LNG Canada’s Joint Venture Partners.

If you have any questions or concerns about this activity, please email feedback@lngcanada.ca or call 250-639-3229.
