Marine mammal safety is a paramount concern to us at LNG Canada. That’s why we worked collaboratively with First Nations, including Gitga’at, Gitxaala and Haisla to develop and implement a comprehensive Marine Mammal Study as part of our Environmental Assessment Certificate Application.

In addition to providing us with invaluable baseline information, these studies helped inform the mitigations that we developed in order to reduce interactions with marine mammals – including reducing the navigational speeds of our carriers to between 8 and 10 knots during active season, and having marine mammal observers onboard all of our LNG vessels.

We will continue to work with our First Nations partners through the life of our Project to ensure that we are operating safely and with minimal impact to marine mammals and marine users in the Douglas and Principe Channels. To learn more about safe shipping and what we are doing to ensure our Project is the safest on earth, including in the marine environment, please visit https://bit.ly/2DxdfjR and watch and share this video.
